Common Fridge Errors

Bath Domestic Appliances have a great deal of experience at repairing fridges across Wiltshire and Somerset, and we come across the same common faults and problems all the time.

Sometimes fridge issues are just down to improper or incorrect use, so we thought we’d compile this list of five common fridge faults that you can use for troubleshooting before you call in our fridge experts for professional advice.

Please be aware though that it is not advisable to tinker with the inner workings of a fridge unless you are qualified to do so, because they use extremely high electricity voltage, which is stored even after the appliance is switched off.

A Warm Fridge

When your fridge isn’t cooling properly, there are a few signs you might notice. Food that goes bad faster than usual, or a lack of a cold breeze when you open the door are the most obvious signs that your fridge is too warm. Before you start troubleshooting, check to make sure that nothing is blocking the door from closing properly. If the door is closing properly, and the temperature is set correctly there are a few other things that could be causing the problem.

One possibility is that the door seal is damaged, allowing warm air to enter the fridge, making it difficult to keep the temperature cold. Another possibility is that the temperature is set too high. Finally, a buildup of frost on the evaporator coils can also cause the fridge to not cool properly. If you are not sure how to fix the problem, you can call a repair technician.

Fluctuating temperatures or warm spots within the fridge can indicate a faulty thermostat, blocked air vents, or an improper door seal. Again, an engineer would be needed as they can bring the correct tools to identify the area of the issue and solve your problem efficiently.

Constant Running

Sometimes your fridge might be working overtime. When your appliance seems to be working overtime, there can be a few reasons, such as a faulty thermostat, blocked vents, or a lack of refrigerant liquid leading to the fridge struggling to maintain the desired temperature.

To help your fridge work more efficiently, make sure there is a gap between the wall and the back of the fridge. This will allow air to circulate properly and help the fridge cool down. If your fridge is still working overtime, even after you have checked the vents and made sure there is a gap between the wall and the back of the fridge, you should contact a qualified appliance repair technician. They will be able to diagnose the problem and fix it for you.

Water Leakage

Water inside or leaking from the front of your fridge can be a sign of a few different problems. If you see water pooling on the bottom shelf or leaking from the front of the fridge, it could be caused by condensation from a faulty door seal. This happens when warm, moist air from the kitchen enters the fridge and condenses on the cold surfaces inside.

Water ingress or leakage from the front panel suggests a temperature control issue. If the fridge is not cooling properly, the warm air inside will also cause condensation and water buildup. Either way, it’s important to have the problem fixed by a professional as soon as possible. Leaving the issue unresolved can lead to mold and mildew growth, which can damage the fridge and pose a health risk.
