Error Codes For Indesit Washing Machines

Indesit washing machines take up a significant part of the market share in the UK, being affordable, versatile and of good quality.

No matter how good a washing machine brand is, however, there are times when faults occur or parts just simply wear out. Unless they are very old most Indesit washing machines are repairable, and repairs are usually more cost-effective than replacing the machine with a new one.

When it comes to washing machine repairs our technicians at Bath Domestic Appliances will always check the machine for error codes. Indesit washing machine error codes are digitally displayed on most Indesit washing machine models. They can also be indicated by a sequence of flashing LED lights on the machine’s dashboard panel.

Error codes are useful because while they don’t necessarily indicate exactly what is wrong with a broken Indesit washing machine, they do give a clue as to which part or function of the machine is faulty. The error code can point the repair technician in the right direction when it comes to diagnosing a problem with a washing machine.

You may find it useful to know the meaning behind the Indesit washing machine error codes. When they occur, don’t forget to make a note and convey the code to the repair technician:

(Note: the letter and number indicate the error code that will be showing on the digital display; the LED number indicates which of your machine’s five lights will flash on the dashboard.)

F1 (LED 4)

This indicates that there is a short circuit in the washing machine’s motor, which could be potentially serious. An expert is needed to examine the motor.

F2 (LED 3)

The motor is either jammed – or the tacho (the part that measures the speed of the motor) is faulty. A technician will check the motor, tacho, connections and main circuit board to find the problem.

F3 (LED 3 & 4)

This shows a problem with the NTC thermistor, which is the device that allows the machine to identify the water temperature of the wash. The thermistor could be faulty, or it could just be a loose connection.

F4 (LED 2)

In the washing machine a part called the pressure switch tells the machine when there is water in the drum. This error code alerts you to the fact that the pressure switch is jammed on empty, registering that there is no water in the drum, even if there is. The cycle will thus be disrupted. A repair technician will have to inspect the switch hoses, wiring, module connections and the switch itself to diagnose the problem.

F5 (LED 2 & 4)

The opposite to the situation with error code F4, this indicates that the pressure switch is jammed on full. The cause of the fault requires the same action as above, except that this could also be indicating a blockage in the pump.

F7 (LED 2, 3 & 5)

This code shows there is a problem with the heating system in your washing machine. It could be down to a wiring problem, a faulty heating element, or an issue with control module connections.

F8 (LED 1)

Like F7 this is indicative of a heating relay system problem – more serious than the previous error code.

F9 (LED 1 & 4)

When you see this error code it means there is a major problem with the machine set-up, requiring complete re-programming or replacing all the electronics.

F10 (LED 1 & 3)

This is a complex error involving the sensor in the pressure switch, which needs professional attention.

F11 (LED 1, 3 & 4)

This error code tells you that the washing machine pump is not working. It’s likely the fault is more serious than simply a blocked filter. It probably involves the connections between the pump and the module or may require a pump replacement.

F12 (LED 1 & 2)

This shows an electrical connection problem, indicating a faulty cable between the electronic control cards in the washing machine.

F13 (LED 1, 2 & 4)

This fault relates to Indesit Washer-Dryers and indicates that the machine has overheated for some reason. It could just need the lint filter cleaning, or it could be a faulty dryer motor.

F14 (LED 1, 2 & 3)

This code pertains to Indesit Washer-Dryers, and appears when the dryer is not heating. The problem could be the thermostat, heating element, fan motor or module connections.

F15 (LED 1, 2, 3 & 4)

With four lights flashing and F15 error code showing on your Indesit Washer-Dryer it means there is a fault with the dryer element.

F17 (LED 4 & 5)

This shows your machine has fallen victim to a door lock failure, which could be caused by various things and needs a professional to investigate.

F18 (LED 3)

The most fatal fault of all is indicated by this code, which means there is a communication error on the 3-phase motor. The power board on your machine will probably need replacing by a qualified repair technician.
